US Embassy in Baghdad hit for third time in a week

Iraq becomes an undeclared front in the US-Iran war as embassy attacks escalate.

The US Embassy compound in Baghdad was struck by drones and rockets for the third time in a week, according to Iranian state broadcaster IRIB, which claimed responsibility on behalf of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.

The latest attack ignited a fire at a logistics base inside the Green Zone. Iraq, not formally a party to the conflict, has become a collateral battlefield with US bases regularly targeted by Iran-aligned militias.

The Pentagon confirmed it has reinforced air defenses at the embassy but declined to provide details on casualties or damage. The escalation in Baghdad complicates any scenario of “winding down” operations as suggested by Trump.
