Negotiations for Vinicius Junior’s contract renewal with Real Madrid have hit a standstill. According to Mario Cortegana of The Athletic, the Spanish club is standing firm on its financial policy and is unwilling to meet the €30 million net annual salary requested by the forward’s camp.

The figure sought by the Brazilian includes base salary, performance bonuses, and a renewal signing fee. Currently, Real Madrid is offering a package of €20 million net, which would already represent an increase over the €17 million he earns today, but the gap between the two parties remains significant.

Florentino Pérez’s Financial Discipline

Historically, Real Madrid is known for refusing to break its wage hierarchy for any player. At present, Vinicius’s salary already places him at the top of the payroll alongside Kylian Mbappé. Management believes that giving in to the €30 million demand could trigger a domino effect with other squad stars, such as Jude Bellingham and Rodrygo.

  • Contract Status: The current deal expires in 2027. By the end of this season, only 12 months will remain on the contract, increasing external pressure.
  • Internal Relationship: Despite the economic hurdle, the relationship between Vinicius and President Florentino Pérez is described as “solid,” maintaining optimism for a positive outcome.
  • Gridlock: Formal talks have been practically frozen since last summer, with no significant new progress.

Next Steps

Real Madrid is showing no signs of rushing. The club is banking on Vinicius’s strong identification with the white shirt to eventually reach a middle ground. However, time is on the player’s side; the closer the contract gets to its end, the greater Vinicius’s bargaining power becomes amidst interest from Premier League and Saudi Arabian clubs.

Expectations are that negotiations will resume with higher intensity following the conclusion of European competitions, when the focus shifts exclusively to planning for the 2026/27 season.
