US and Israeli forces struck the Natanz nuclear facility, Iran’s main uranium enrichment center, in overnight raids on Friday. Iranian state media confirmed the attack but said there was no radioactive leak or danger to nearby civilians.
Natanz, located in Isfahan province, operates hundreds of enrichment centrifuges and has been a top-priority target for American and Israeli military planners. The strike marks the first direct hit on the facility during the current war.
The International Atomic Energy Agency has not yet issued a statement. Nuclear security analysts warn that strikes on enrichment facilities carry risks of radioactive dispersal even in limited-damage scenarios.
Trump had listed “preventing Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon” among the war’s objectives. The attack signals Washington’s willingness to escalate even as it publicly discusses winding down operations.
