Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has stated that the wave of protests sweeping across Tehran and other major cities resembles a “coup d’état” attempt. According to the Tasnim news agency, the Supreme Leader accused demonstrators of targeted attacks against security forces and public infrastructure.
Khamenei declared that the government’s crackdown has successfully frustrated the movement, which is widely considered the most significant threat to the Islamic Republic since the 1979 Revolution. While the Iranian government has officially recognized a portion of the casualties, international human rights organizations report thousands of deaths during the unrest.

Global Tensions and Nuclear Negotiations
The Supreme Leader also issued a stern warning regarding the United States, suggesting that any military aggression from Washington could ignite a full-scale regional conflict. This statement comes amidst contradictory signals from the West; while regional tensions rise, U.S. President Donald Trump recently claimed that Tehran is currently negotiating a new nuclear deal.
Further complicating the diplomatic landscape is the European Union’s recent decision to designate the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) as a terrorist organization. Iranian authorities have reacted fiercely to the move, labeling it a direct provocation and a violation of international norms.
