Authorities in Tehran labeled Washington’s announcement a “media stunt” designed to exert psychological pressure on the country.
According to the state news agency IRNA, the refusal to return to the bargaining table is due to demands considered excessive by the American government and a constant shift in posture from Washington’s negotiators. The Iranian government claims that no conditions for dialogue exist as long as the naval blockade of its ports and coastline—initiated last week—continues to be enforced.
Ceasefire Violation and the Strait of Hormuz
Tehran was emphatic in stating that the U.S. military blockade constitutes a direct violation of the fragile ceasefire mediated by Pakistan. For Iranian authorities, the disruption of maritime trade invalidates any previous diplomatic progress, turning negotiations into an instrument of coercion.
The current impasse centers on two critical axes showing no signs of resolution:
